Carrie Mancuso

As an artist, Carrie Mancuso works slowly and precisely. Her eye for detail took shape early, in a childhood house with a music recording studio in the basement and musicians always passing through, and later as a sound engineer for television, radio and film at Seattle's renowned Bad Animals Studio. That same ear for precision carried over when she turned to drawing: two years of classical training at Cooley Studios in Worthington, Ohio, followed by years of teaching herself.

Carrie is also the co-founder of The Art Studio in Gaillac, France where she spends time hosting other artists' talent, fostering a community of connection, animating a weekly figure drawing class, and continuing to delve into the world of nature that shapes her own work.

Carrie draws insects and animals in pencil and charcoal, using classical drawing techniques. Her work is inspired by the traditions of entomologists and naturalists. She makes this work to appreciate the beauty and ecological complexity of a creature, while at the same time feeling the friction of living in ways that diminish its existence, and our own.
